Pepsi Removing “All Natural” Label From Naked Juices
Love the Naked juices for their healthy benefits and natural ingredients? Well, PepsiCo Inc. will be getting rid of the “all natural” label placed on their line of Naked juices due to a recent lawsuit against the company which claimed that certain ingredients found within the beverage are not natural.
PepsiCo Inc. stated that they simply use a “boost of vitamins” in select drinks; however, the lawsuit stated that the vitamins included in this “boost” are synthetic ingredients, such as fiber made by Archer Daniels Midland. The beverage company opted to not comment when asked if synthetic fibers are actually included, but instead stated that they will no longer use the word “natural”.
There is a lot of confusion around the word natural when it pertains to the food industry. There is currently no clear definition as to what makes a product natural, but the word is acceptable as long as the product does not contain “added color, artificial flavors, or synthetic substances”. In addition, the lawsuit also claimed that the company used genetically modified organisms in the Naked juices. PepsiCo Inc. has agreed to settle the lawsuit for $9 million.
